We've been busy!
And so on, I know, it's a poor excuse, but we really have been. There will probably soon be some photos here from the events we've organized, new people we've met, old people who we met even more than before... Fun but exhausting times indeed.

In other news, we have a couple more updates worth of Kid Amnesia episodes, after which it will be time for us to take a short break and for AMNESIA THE SUPER-HERO to come back! Yes, the second book is finally out on the stands all around the Balkans and it's selling like cupcakes (edt. Emir: You WISH! Filip: Yes, yes I do...) so the English version will start updating right here sooner than you think. Until then, please drop us a line if you care!

Amnesia (heart) Cure
Fondacija Cure, which is awesome by the way, held a march last Monday marking the 100 years of celebration of 8th of March, international woman's day.

They organized additional programs and for one of them they asked me to design a poster with Amnesia.

You see this girl with Amnesia? Well, you'll see more of her in the 2nd book of Amnesia's comics.

The poster promotes one of the founds opened by Cure, but since you are probably not living in Bosnia just enjoy the drawing and don't make me translate it to you (I would translate it so badly so whatever you think it's written here is probably better than what I would translate).

And in the other news, that Conan drawing Senad and I did, didn't win anything on the competition we made it for. But other people's work did win so congratulations to them.

Also, the whole Leipzig book fair drawing/designing thing... it worked and the material will be used. Yay! So, if you are in Leipzig from 17th to 20th of March, go on the Book fair and look for a stand of Bosnia and Herzegovina. I'll have my fingers crossed for my drawing to be there!

Speaking of caricatures
Eons ago my friend Vuk asked me to draw a caricature of Bosnian politicians. That was waaay before we started making those political cartoons.

I never got to know what he did with this drawing but recently I found it on my backup discs and I thought that it was funny I could not even remember who the politicians on the drawing were. Some of them are still in our government and others are... who knows. But... whet... 5 or 6 years ago they were somebody worth mocking in a casual caricature. On which Vuk insisted I add more, and more details...

Caricature for Leipzig Book Fair
Recently I got a really cool job of designing and drawing promotional material for the stand of Bosnia and Herzegovina on Leipzig Book Fair 2011.

I was asked to draw Ivo Andric, or Nobel prize winner for literature, together with contemporary authors from Bosnia in a kind of good-looking/cute caricature.

They would then print that drawing on posters, leaflets, bags etc...

I got to it right away, sketching the characters for the caricature.

And just as I got everything perfectly aligned and in balance...

... another author joined the group.

What I did then was not the good old "erase and draw it again" method that I usually use but the "fix it on computer" method I really try to avoid. First stop - I inked the drawing as it is.

Then I scanned it in 1200 dpi and traced the whole thing in vectors (which is a good thing as the image was meant for 2x5m poster). By doing that I could then re-adjust the elements without any loss of the quality of drawing. Not only that, I could easily color it... well, I do work as a graphic designer so drawing vectors is something I know how to do... And in no time (read: 8 hours of work) I had a finished illustration.

Here's a zoom file of that tracing thing I did. Some details were lost but overall it turned out great. Misalignment of color is done on purpose.

But, it didn't work that well because, although I was faithful to the clothes the writers wore in their pictures, the drawing was just so colorful without any sense. To make it better, and potentially reduce the print costs, I downsized the color palette to just two colors - red and black.

Now that was something! If printed on nice, yellow-toned paper with texture that could really be an eye catching leaflet/bookmaker or whatever.

Unfortunately, this being Bosnia and Herzegovina, the land of bizarre and unforeseen ways of mind, at that moment somebody in high place puled out the plug on the whole project. Zip! No graphic design, no drawings, no trip to fair altogether.

It was nice doing the job while it lasted. I liked the subject and was hoping to see the illustration printed on a fancy paper... But, as it is, this is going into the drawer, the files are going on a DVD backup and the only use of all this work will be this blog post.

Conan
Publisher from Croatia held a competition for a drawing of Conan the barbarian for one of his publications (publisher's, not Conan's). Here is my entry - pencils are made by me, a gazillion of ink dashes was added by Senad Mavric
